Dinosaur National Monument Utah

7/4/26 - Happy 250th 'Merica!! We left Colorado today for Dinosaur National Monument, so far we have had campsites booked but we left this evening open, just to be a little wild. We ended up at a pretty cool first come first serve spot at Green River Campground in the Park on the Utah side. But holy moly was it hot, I am pretty darn thankful to have a camper with AC, especially for our old puppers.

We set up quickly in camp then headed out to the Quarry Exhibit Hall to touch 149 Million year old fossils. We were all in awe over how many fossils are still imbedded in these rocks and couldn't help but think what it would have been like to discover the first one here.

Then we got the pleasure of listening to a history lesson back at camp on the first expedition of John Powell down the Yampa and Green Rivers. It was given by none other than Jack Black!

Dinosaur National Monument Park is also a Dark Sky park so that evening they held an event at a campground nearby where we got to look through telescopes at different stars and clusters. It was a pretty unique experience.

7/5/26 - Because of the temps we got up early to go hiking on the Sound of Silence trail, a 4-mile trek into the geology of the area. We saw tons of lizards and thankfully no rattlesnakes.

Then it was time to pack up and head to our next spot near Park City.
